Blog 4 - Relationships Between Shots
For my movie scene I chose Greased Lightning from the classic film Grease. The scene opens with a shot displayed using the XYZ axis where the gaze of the viewer is being attracted towards the main character named Danny. The tops of the board and locker that are pictured in the background help to make up the X axis whereas its sides form the Y axis. In addition, the lifted hood of the car creates the Z axis, giving the intended audience depth. This shot is followed by a wide shot where the viewer now sees more than just the 1 character first pictured as well as the setting which appears to be taking place inside a car shop. The next shot is motivated camera movement. Danny points and the shot focuses on a different character named Kenickie, in what appears to be a medium shot. Afterwards, the shot switches to a low angle shot making the group jumping all over the car seem superior which compliments the movie overall because there is rivalry between this group and another, not to mention the song they are singing in this scene is meant to feel empowering. Finally, despite the noting the group as a whole, the camera ends with a closeup shot of Danny, emphasizing his leadership/ importance within the group itself.
